Stop Hate for Profit: Peloton spends 76% of their marketing budget on Facebook, while 180+ companies are quitting the platform over hate speech. Why won't Peloton join the boycott?

180+ Companies are boycotting Facebook; Peloton isn't.

In the past week major brands - Verizon, Adidas, Unilever, Honda, and Hershey’s - to name a few - joined a global boycott of advertising on Facebook. They join a list of over 180 companies agreeing to "Hit Pause on Hate," (some are listed here) by not advertising on Facebook in the month of July. The boycott has been organized by the Anti-Defamation League, Color of Change, the Free Press, Common Sense, the NAACP, and Sleeping Giants - to name a few.
The goal is to send Facebook a powerful message: Your profits will never be worth promoting hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism, and violence. Facebook took $70 billion in ad dollars; but did you realize it's the ONLY social media platform Peloton officially recognizes? Peloton spent 76% of their marketing budget there from 11/16/2018 - 12/15/19! Peloton has heavily advertised on FB - and promoted the platform - for years. Marketing efforts have long been led by Carolyn Tisch Blodgett and “community” efforts led and overseen by Jayvee Nava. While many of you were pointing out the longstanding toxic environment of their Facebook page, Peloton still left it largely unmoderated. Even going so far as patting themselves on the back with a “200k strong” badge, and bragging about it multiple times on their public blog. They push users to Facebook via links on every page of their website; its mentioned 92 times on the company blog; in every email from John Foley; and on the bike, Tread, and apps pop-ups encourage users to sign up for Facebook accounts and link their Peloton login. Peloton doesn't just advertise on FB, they actively encourage users participate there.
Peloton spent $324 million on marketing - 35% of sales - in the 12 months ended June 2019. With 76% dedicated to Facebook, that's $246.24 million.
Let’s put that $246.24 million into perspective. Money spent on a platform promoting hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism and violence. What would that money buy? It's 6,313,846 monthly subscriptions, or 109,684 bikes, or 57,332 Treads, or 5 brand new studios, or 4.5x their entire annual R&D budget, or 15x their music costs. Strikingly, just one-month ago - weeks after protests began - Peloton pledged $500k to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, even while continuing their Facebook presence.
Over the years that Peloton has been relying on Facebook as its sole community platform and major advertising partner, Facebook has used Peloton's money by:

What could Peloton have accomplished with that same $246.24 million?

Facebook could protect and support Black users. They could call out Holocaust denial as hate. They could help get out the vote. But they are actively choosing not to do so. 99% of Facebook’s $70 billion is made through advertising. Meanwhile, Peloton has been dedicating 76% of its marketing spend on Facebook. Here's some examples. They're in the top-five spenders of direct-to-consumer brands. Peloton could send a very direct message here, but their silence is deafening. Not only are they NOT taking a stand, they continue to send messages to all subscribers asking them to become users at Facebook, further increasing Facebook ad revenue.

It's time we asked Peloton to stop standing with Facebook; stop advertising there; stop running their only "official" page on a platform promoting hate and violence. It's time Peloton put its corporate money - our subscription dollars - toward a platform that does not promote hate speech, racism, bigotry, antisemitism, and violence.

We don't publicly post our traffic, because we're really more focused on helping each other and don’t feel the need to emphasize subscribers as the sole marker of a successful community. But over 900,000 people visit here in a given month. Over 4 million unique pageviews. In May 2020 alone you posted 1,096 threads with a combined 24,983 comments. The vast majority were detailed, helpful, informative, interesting, value-added info you generously shared with your fellow members out of the goodness of your heart.
As always, keeping our rules enforced fairly and evenhandedly, and generally running this massive place, would be an impossible endeavour if not for FrauKoko and Kraphtyone. We owe a big thanks to NCBarkingDogs who spends countless hours keeping the bot's gears greased.

What Reddit is doing

You may have seen the news Reddit's sitewide owners have banned a number of communities, added a Black board member, and updated their content policy. If you don't know reddit's sitewide rules, they're worth checking out here.
Here in /PelotonCycle we have always maintained a stricter set of rules, including "be kind" (R2), "criticism is welcomed, but don't use it as an excuse to push an agenda" (R6), and a broad view (R7) that "personal attacks, slurs, or comments that insult or demean a specific user or group of users" is inappropriate, considered spam, the content will be removed and you may be banned without warning. We have for a while now been banning links to Facebook or removing content that promotes FOMO when discussing Peloton on FB. More on that policy here.

Someone recently asked me, "what can I do to help?" and my answer is: a) use the vote buttons, and b) click "report" on anything you feel is rule-breaking.
We're community-run. Meaning, your votes move content up/down the page. If it shouldn't be seen, downvote it. If more people should see it, upvote it. If it's rule-breaking -- that goes for any post or any comment, click the "report" button. That immediately sends a 100% anonymous alert to a shared moderator inbox and allows us to act on inappropriate content quickly. If you have an issue with a specific mod, please let me know. If you have an issue with me (and don't want to PM me), please let another mod know. None of us make money off this place; none of us have ever made a single penny here. State of the subreddit, 400k subscribers edition

A little over a year ago we hit 300,000 subscribers in /magictcg, and we did a series of "state of the subreddit" posts to talk about some things that were going on and that we wanted to do in the future. Here's the last of that series for context.
This week we hit 400,000 subscribers, and there's a lot of stuff going on, so here we are again.

What's new

We rolled out the updated subreddit rules last year. Aside from rule 8, and some of the people who've been on the wrong end of rule 1, people seem to be OK with the rules. Most of the drama last time around was the content-creator guidelines, and once we got that settled after a few rounds of feedback and changes, people have seemed pretty happy with that too. The one-per-week self-link policy has mostly held up well, and we haven't had to do much enforcement of it.
When we think someone is violating the one-per-week limit for promoting their content, we've been following a process of:
  1. Remove excess posts.
  2. Message the user to let them know we think they're over the limit.
  3. If they continue to go over the limit after that, try a temporary ban, and escalate that if they still don't change their behavior.
In about a year of enforcing the new content-creator guidelines, we've issued one permanent ban that I'm aware of for repeat violations.
We set up post flair, and at first we relied on a combination of AutoModerator guessing flairs from post titles and sending automatic reminders to people asking them to flair their post when it couldn't be sure what the right flair would be. More recently, reddit's been rolling out the ability to require flair selection at the time the post is submitted. We have this turned on, but it doesn't work on every version of reddit. I know it does work on new-design desktop, for example, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work on old-design desktop. Since it's not universally enforced by reddit, we still have AutoModerator doing what it's been doing.
We've had several people ask why there's no "Discussion" or "Help" flairs. The answer is we've been trying to avoid super-generic categories like those, because just about any post could arguably use them. "I want help with a rules question, so I'll tag Help", for example, or "I want people to discuss this deck, so I'll tag Discussion". So we don't currently have plans to add those kinds of flairs. We are looking at adding some for expanding categories like people sharing Magic-related apps they've built, or posting links to forums/subreddits/Discords for specific formats, deck archetypes, communities, and so on.
We've also tried to clean up the subreddit sidebar, make it more useful than it was before, and keep its content consistent across all of reddit's various designs and platforms. We know some people miss the old magic-expanding list of Magic-related subreddits, but the expand/collapse effect only worked on the old desktop reddit design, and that version of the sidebar has a 10,000-character limit on what text we can put in it. So we moved that out to a wiki page, and now the sidebar links to that page. The new desktop reddit design has support for a calendar widget, and we've experimented a bit with that as a way to have upcoming events/products automatically show up at the right times, but unfortunately it doesn't work on old desktop reddit, and doesn't support much in the way of rich content. So the sidebar is manually updated for now.
Something that's gotten a more mixed response is a change to how we use AutoModerator. There are several triggers in our automod setup that try to give stock responses to some common and repetitive types of posts. For example, if you make a post that seems like it's asking for help identifying a foreign-language card, or what set a card is from, AutoModerator will trigger and post advice and links on how to do that.
There are also some triggers that remove certain types of posts our subreddit rules don't allow. An example there is people posting to share or ask for Arena codes; AutoModerator will remove those posts and leave a comment explaining that transacting Arena codes isn't allowed here, and suggests where to go to do that. Especially during prerelease weekends when people spam tons of excess codes, and /MagicArena usually has a consolidated thread for them, this saves a lot of time and effort (the reason they're not allowed, incidentally, is that posts of codes "expire" almost instantly because someone browsing /new will use the codes, and then turn into long threads of frustrated "those are already used, anyone got more" comments).
For several other common types of posts that violate the subreddit rules, we have similar triggers in place that remove the post and leave a comment telling the user what rule AutoModerator thinks was broken, and to message us for manual review if AutoModerator got it wrong. The majority of false positives are for the tired/repetitive posts rule, and specifically for posts that look like "what's your favorite guild" or "what's your favorite deck" (or planeswalker, or flavor text, or art...), which we used to get a lot of before we started removing them. Tuning AutoModerator to catch these without also removing other things has been difficult, and we may just give up on that one and do something more manual.
The rotating weekly threads like Tutor Tuesday and the weekly buy/sell/trade thread took a hiatus during the first wave of the COVID pandemic. We were getting ready to bring those back this week, but we've ended up wanting to use the sticky slots (we only get two at a time) for other things. They will come back again in the near future. We'd love to just be able to set AutoModerator to post them and move on, but its scheduled-post functionality seems to be awfully flaky, and mod-support forums are full of people who've been unable to get it to work, so for now they'll be happening under a non-automod account instead.

What's still ongoing

There's a recurring question we've never been able to get or give a clear answer to: "What is this subreddit about?"
In theory we're a large general Magic forum. But that means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. In earlier eras, we (the mods) mostly let people push specific types of content out of /magictcg and into more narrowly-focused subreddits by saying "don't post that here, post it in (other subreddit)". Which is great for those subreddits, and many of them have turned into thriving communities in their own right. But it leaves the question of what still goes here. Those of you who complain that it's all either spoilers, drama, or alters and arts and crafts will be familiar with this. It's not quite true that that's all the content we see here, but it does describe a significant amount of the content that gets posted here.
This also manifests itself in the experience people have posting here. The other day on Twitter someone compared /magictcg to a subreddit for a different hobby, saying that in the other subreddit they could post a question and get lots of "I don't know but I'm upvoting so other people will see it and answer", while here they would get a bunch of immediate and probably correct answers, and also be downvoted to oblivion. Which is a weird phenomenon, but does line up with what we've seen happen.
In previous posts like this, we've put up some ideas for how we could recruit and promote a wider variety of Magic content here and asked for people to tell us what they think, but we've gotten very little engagement on that. We're still very much open to ideas and feedback, and this is something we can't just solve on our own. For exmaple, something I've proposed a few times is trying to have regular spotlights/"best of" roundups from other Magic-related subreddits posted here, which both provides quality content here and helps get attention on those subreddits, but that requires people with strong knowledge of specific communities and the enthusiasm to put in the effort of doing the roundups on a regular and ongoing basis. In other words, it's not something we can just wave a magic mod-wand and do; we need the community to step up and tell us what kind of content they want to see here, and help to produce and promote that content.
Another ongoing debate is how we should handle crowdfunding campaigns; the rules currently state that they require pre-approval and get one post (to stop the flood of daily and sometimes hourly updates some Kickstarters tried to do here). But for a while now we've been enforcing a moratorium on those, largely because of the high volume coming from/affiliated with one specific entity. We stopped approving any crowdfunding campaigns temporarily as a way to be fair and not show favoritism or single anyone out, and we're not sure how to proceed from there, so ideas are welcome.

Our relationship with Wizards of the Coast

I shouldn't have to say anything about this, but it's a meme that won't go away and that people seem to trot out when they want to generate outrage directed at us. As the sidebar says, this subreddit is not produced, endorsed, supported by, or affiliated with Wizards of the Coast. Nor are any of the moderators employees of or compensated by Wizards of the Coast for what we do. We not only allow but often promote content that's critical of WotC, and of the state and direction of the game, and Wizards of the Coast has no say in how we moderate here.
WotC has some accounts that they use to post things here. We don't interfere with them doing that. Sometimes we've stickied their posts for things like Pro Tours (or whatever they're called now), but mostly that's laziness -- it saved us the trouble of making the threads ourselves, because in the days when in-person Magic was a thing we used to have a sticky thread most weekends for discussing whatever big tournaments were going on. Some WotC employees also have had individual reddit accounts here. We've tried our best to flair those accounts so you know when you're interacting with them, the same as we've flaired SCG and CFB staff, and some notable pro players, artists, and other Magic figures who've popped up here.
They do send us a preview card most sets. Only one member of our mod team sees those, and also handles posting them on the appointed day. We do not give WotC any preferential treatment in exchange.
Speaking for myself: during my judge career, I was under temporary contract to WotC a few times as staff for Pro Tour events. My last PT was Battle for Zendikar. I chose to let my L3 certification expire, and ceased to be a judge of any level, in 2017. Outside of that, my relationship with Wizards of the Coast has ranged from neutral to occasionally outright adversarial. As, for example, when I took down the judge community and event-staffing site (which I hosted and ran out of my own pocket) to protest actions they'd taken toward some of my fellow judges. My post and comment history is public, and a quick browse of it -- especially highly-voted/gilded stuff -- should dispel any notion that I give or would give special favorable treatment to WotC.
I don't expect any of this to stop people who say we're paid WotC shills who remove anything that criticizes the company, but I hope it does inspire you not to listen to such people, and maybe also to question what they stand to gain (often, traffic to their sites/articles/videos) from making such claims.

The thing you came here to talk about

In theory this subreddit has ten human moderators, plus the AutoModerator bot and the "magictcgmods" account, which is a shared account that has mod privileges so it can do stuff like sticky posts. It was created with the idea that it could do the recurring daily topic threads since those were supposed to be coming back this week, and although I could have used it for this post, I've always done the state-of-the-subreddit posts and don't mind having them associated with my personal account.
In practice, not all of those moderators are active, and the ones who are, aren't active all the time. I'm not going to quote specific numbers or call people out, because it's not relevant here. And of the mods whose activity is low or declining, it's mostly been gradual enough that we don't feel it most of the time, because this is a pretty low-maintenance subreddit from the mod perspective.
That's probably a statement some people will find surprising and that they'll instantly disagree with, so I'll explain a bit: especially in relation to the size of this subreddit, it's kind of shocking how little human intervention is needed most of the time. We have some pretty dedicated trolls, for example, but they almost never come up with new material and so a few battle-tested AutoModerator rules take care of most of the trouble they try to cause. Most days, all we really need is a couple people who'll check the mod queue and modmail box occasionally to confirm the stuff AutoModerator caught, fish out any false positives, and deal with user-initiated reports and questions. The busiest "normal" time is preview season, when we need to chase down and remove all the duplicate posts of each card.
The problem has always been the occasional surges when there are big stories, scandals, or other things that really get people riled up. During those times we have to be a lot more vigiliant about rule 1 and rule 8, the mod queue fills up a lot more with reports and with the kinds of slurs that normally only the trolls throw around, and it needs both more attention and more frequent attention.
Which is what's happened over the past week, and in the worst possible way. We've had multiple things that more or less exploded the instant they were posted, filled up the initial theads with people flaming each other, produced self-sustaining storms of additional posts, and it happened during a preview season and at a lull in mod activity. For various reasons, two of our mods who are usually pretty reliably active weren't, and some who are more intermittently active also weren't around much. This isn't their fault, but it did put us in a bit of a bind. And as has been said in some of the other stickies recently, even at the best of times we're mostly set up to handle the kind of moderation a card-game subreddit needs, which is different from the kind of moderation that's been needed this past week.
Speaking for myself, I think that as much as people would have hated it, we should have gone to a consolidated thread for the card bannings faster than we did, so that there would be some thread for people to vent their initial outrage a bit, and expose the trolls and assholes more quickly, so that real discussion could happen later. At the same time, the public statements from this mod team about how we got literally blown away, especially on Wednesday, by the volume of things in our queue, and taxed for more than normal moderating the sticky theads, are pure unvarnished truth, and we just had to find a way to turn off the firehose for a bit.
But again, speaking for myself, I'm also glad that we were able to have the sticky threads we had this week. We've been able to put attention on things that needed attention, and I don't begrudge the fact that it pushed us as a mod team beyond what we're used to.
I've seen this subreddit go through a few cycles where things seem to be OK for a while, then something flares up and all the nasty folks pop out of the woodwork with new accounts spewing the same old crap. When that happens, we ban a bunch of people (for those of you who've been insisting "just ban the trolls and racists", you should know we do -- we're well into triple-digit numbers of bans per day right now, and we know we're still not catching all of them, so if you see somthing, report it). Then things settle down until the cycle repeats.
And to be clear: this subreddit is explicitly not a safe place for racist assholes, sexist assholes, homophobic assholes, transphobic assholes, xenophobic assholes, or other types of bigoted assholes. That's a policy we've had and been pretty open about for as long as I've been a mod here, and our reputation in the nastier parts of reddit is pretty solid proof of that.
That said, we are going to add more moderators, and we're having discussions as a team about how to do that and what goals we have for expanding the team. We're not aiming just for quantity -- we're aiming for quality, and for commitment, because when we hit our limitations right now it's not because of too few total mods, it's because of too few currently-active mods.
Some of that will necessarily depend on what kinds of initiatives people come up with. We also need to figure out how our approach to the subreddit is going to change as we continue to grow, because it's clear that the low-maintenance days are coming to an end and that the way we've been handling things isn't going to work. We're open to suggestions on that, though those of you who'd prefer a completely or almost completely unmoderated subreddit are probably always going to be disappointed. The same for people who demand that every mod action be published and put up for debate and review.
Our main goal is that we want this to be as friendly and welcoming a place for general Magic content as a subreddit our size can be, and that means sometimes we're just going to take action to kick people out, and some things just aren't going to be allowed here. We know there's a dedicated faction of people who think that makes us horrible censoring fascists, and who will roll their eyes at what they see as us doubling down on it, but that's not an aspect of this subreddit that I see changing.

What's next

That depends, in large part, on you. Last time around our main focus was on the subreddit rules update and flair, and we got good feedback and made use of it. This time around, the main things are:
Ideally here we're looking for specific actionable feedback. This is the internet, we've heard insults and personal attacks plenty of times and they don't have any effect at this point. Similarly, we've heard plenty of "just do this", where the person suggesting it often either doesn't realize we already do that, or doesn't realize how much they're glossing over with the word "just". We try to pay attention to what people do and don't like and also to the way the subreddit as a whole reacts to things -- for example, the stickied posts this week for Zaiem Beg's thread, and the "Black Designers Matter" post, seemed to be generally well-received, the "open thread" for discussing the card bannings less so -- but we very rarely get useful specific feedback, other than the "mods all suck, resign and kill yourselves" stuff that comes with the territory. So if you have that kind of feedback, please let us know about it.

First Quarter Report - Experienced Case-Study

I'm building a new site in YMYL site in a highly competitive niche (finance) and I figured I'd share the results this time to show what's possible if people actually commit and do keyword research correctly.
I will not use ANY backlink purchases, link building, or any form of backlinking, nor will I use any premium keyword tools or other nonsense I don't think anyone needs to start off with. I'll "simulate" the hosting fees, but in reality they're 0 as I already have a very large vps for my other sites that allow this site to be hosted for more or less free/no-effect at this stage.
If I use any premium tools I'll explicitly mention their purchase dates and prices in the table.
Strategy
KW research a sum of 50 keywords, then write and let ideas come. Write Write Write, that's it. No social media whatsoever. No linkbuilding. None of the gimmicks. Just extremely helpful superior content, done at an angle. No money-hungry garbage like "best x of y."
Monetization I will figure out later on. It's not a concern and never should be. It'll come if the niche is good and your site's good. I expect to get the first $500 up and running via ads within the first 9mo, $2000 affiliate by month 14, and then likely will branch into course/E-products around month 18 to try to finish off the final $5k or so or expand past the $10000/mo goal.
Goals to achieve in this case study
$10,000/mo income 2-3 years in (8 -> 12 Quarters). Become one of the most authoritative sites in the niche, execute at least 2 of the top sites in the micro-niche by dethroning their rankings and discouraging further development of their websites.
Unless systematic change occurs (US dollar collapses, communist uprising, etc) this is the goal I'm aiming for, and I believe it to be entirely achievable based on my previous sites.

A total of 6,111,008 videos were removed for violating the community guidelines. It should be noted that these are not necessarily the same videos removed in the list mentioned in the terminations level removals. For example, if a channel received only a single strike, it wouldn't necessarily be terminated (except in cases of severe abuse - think child safety and terrorism) and thus it wouldn't be included in the terminations count.

[Month 0] Growing An Informational Intent Site To $10,000 A Month From Scratch!

Although I have been wanting to start a new informational intent-based domain for a while now, I was planning to wait until 2021 to start it but due to the new round of commission changes in the Amazon Affiliate program, I have decided to put all of my Amazon projects on hold for now as I am massively overexposed to Amazon right now. Although I managed to earn almost $3600 last month from my money site network, the vast majority of it was from the Amazon Affiliate program.
Thankfully, I only had one small site hit by this latest round of changes with it taking about a 60% hit in commissions. My other two main domains are predominantly in the “All Other Categories” section and held at a 4% commission rate. That said though, I definitely think that there will be additional cuts and changes to the Amazon affiliate program in a few years so I want to get this informational intent domain off the ground as soon as possible.
My goal is to diversify both income and traffic sources with this new domain to help reduce future risk too as I have had a number of domains slapped by Google updates in the past. It will hopefully be making most of its money from display ad networks supplemented with a number of different affiliate programs with its traffic predominantly coming from organic search traffic supplemented by Pinterest and eventually Quora with any luck.
The majority of the content I am publishing right now is based around high search volume, low competition informational intent searches to try and scale the traffic on the domain as fast as possible to be able to apply to the Mediavine ad network. After that, I will start adding more content that is more suited to Pinterest and Quora traffic generation.
Niche
Although I have chased the commissions in the past and made sites around niches I had zero interest in, over the last year or two I have gone for lower-income potential niches that I actually know more about and enjoy. So far this is working well for me as I have been able to churn out tons of content without having to put much research in as I know a large amount of the information already as my last three domains have been based around my hobbies.
Although this new domain is not based around a hobby, it is based around something where I know a number of the sub-niches that I plan to cover on the domain well. This should allow me to churn out a ton of content when I have time while also bringing on freelance writers when possible to help me scale this new project as quickly as possible to get it off the ground.
Although the niche of the domain is specific, it is very broad so I should not be running into any problems with running out of content to write about any time soon. This has been an issue for a domain that I made in 2018 as well as one in 2019 where they are hard to scale at their current stage due to having covered so much of the niche already. With this new domain, I should be able to scale it for years to come without much of an issue. Also, I don't give out the specific niche to any of my projects so don't plan to reveal the niche that this domain is in.
Starting With The End In Mind
Although I do plan to keep this new domain going for a few years yet and focus on growing it, I am trying to build the domain in a way where it should be quick and easy to sell once its traffic and income are high enough. This should give me a way to quickly sell the domain if I want in a few years without having any issues but time will tell. On the subject of selling sites, I may sell one of my Amazon Affiliate sites in a few months to fire up some cash to scale this new domain even quicker depending on how it is looking in a few months but so far I have $1000-$2000 a month for this new project for various tasks.
One of my friend's purchases sites to diversify her investing portfolio and I reached out to her for things she looks for in a potential new domain and this is what she came back with saying the first 6 are the main ones she will try to get in any potential new purchase:-
Hosting Theme CMS
Although I have been a big fan of Cloudways previously, the ease of use of Sitegounds has won me over so I have gone with Sitegrounds for this new domain as my host of choice. I have stuck with Namecheap as my domain registrar as I have used them for years and never had a problem with them to date and I like how you get free WhoIs protection with them too.
CMS wise, Wordpress was a no brainer due to having so much experience with the CMS from my other projects. The developer community behind Wordpress pretty much ensures that I always have a plugin or custom code that I can use to do anything I need with ease too.
Although I used to use Newspaper and Colormag as my go-to themes of choice, I have since moved over to Astra as it is so quick and easy to set up so I have gone with Astra as my theme of choice for this new domain too. Without the adsense code on the domain, it is giving me a page load time of around 0.6 seconds for a 2000 word article and around 2.5 seconds load time for the same page with the ad code on it.
This is the load times for a 2000 word article on the domain. The top left is Pingdom without having adsense code on the domain, the top right is Pingdom with adsense code on the domain and the bottom is GTMetrics with adsense code on the domain. GTMetrics were having issues on the day I set the domain up so I never managed to get a speed test before adding the adsense code with GTMetrics. The page sizes are different due to the compression from the autooptimize plugin covered below.
Plugins
AAWP
AAWP is a premium plugin that allows me to quickly and easily make product comparison table and link out to the items on Amazon. It also offers automatic geo-targeting for Amazon as well as a few other things but it does need access to the Amazon API so if you are brand new to this, the normal Amazon One Link system will probably be better and easier until you get your Amazon account approved and get access to their API calls.
If you are new to making affiliate blogs then I go over how you are able to make decent looking comparison tables here using free tools. If you don't have access to the API for Amazon or are on a budget for your blog then it might be worth checking out as you can make them look surprisingly good and they don't take too long to build.
Ads.txt Manager
Not a plugin that I usually use and there are a bunch that does the same thing but it basically allows me to quickly and easily edit my ads.txt file to add the different networks IDs to serve ads on my domain. As this new project is mainly going to be an informational content domain, display ads should make up a solid part of its income and I plan to switch ad networks as traffic grows so this should save me a little time in the future.
Autoptimize
One of my favorite free plugins and offers basic caching and lazy loading of images to help compress your pages and speed your pages up. It's very easy to set up and can help you improve your GTMetrix scores if you care about stuff like that while getting your page load times down. I actually purchased the WP Rocket plugin that is a premium plugin that does a similar job but refunded it and came back to Autoptimize as I personally had better results with it and its free.
Disable Comments
I’m not looking to build a community in the blog comments of this domain or attract bots/spammers so I just disable all comments on all posts with this plugin. Quick and easy and takes ten seconds to set up and can prevent a ton of heartache if you end up on some bot auto-accept bot list.
Google Analytics for WordPress by MonsterInsights
I use this to automatically inject the analytics tracking code for Google Analytics for my domains. Although it is easy enough to do it yourself and manually add it to your theme's header, you have to remember to re-add it every time you update your theme if you do it manually so I just use a plugin to keep things easy.
Google XML Sitemaps
I have seen mixed reports about sitemaps and if it's even worth using them anymore, I still do but it's mainly out of habit rather than knowing if Google still needs them or just crawls your domain. This plugin lets you quickly and easily build out a constant sitemap with a few seconds of adding it to your domain.
Insert Headers and Footers
Pretty sure you can use this to auto inject your Google Analytics code to your header if needed instead of Monster Insights but I have never tried it. I use it to inject the Google Adsense auto ads code to the header of my pages to show their display ads, quick and easy, and offers the same advantage of you not having to go back in and re-add it after each theme update.
Pretty Links
A few uses but the main thing that I use it for is to add place holder links as I publish my content to later turn into affiliate links on the back end once I get approved to different programs. Make sure that the TOS for any affiliate program you apply to actually allows you to do this, it's a grey area with Amazon and a few other networks so be aware of that. It also lets you quickly and easily flip your links from one network to another.
ShortPixel Image Optimizer
Another great tool although it is freemium but for the majority of bloggers, the 100 credits a month that you get for free should be more than enough. It basically compresses your images when you upload them and has one of the best compression systems going from what I can see. It can drastically reduce the size of your images without having much effect on the actual image quality. This means the don’t take as much space up on your hosting while needing less bandwidth to actually send on a page required letting your page load quicker too.
Ultimate Addons for Gutenberg
Made by the same team who make the Astra theme, solid plugin considering its free, basically ads some additional blocks for the Gutenberg editor in Wordpress to let you do a few other things with it.
WP Revisions Control
This lets you quickly and easily set a maximum number of revisions for each post to stop it clogging up your database on bigger sites. This plugin does have its negative sides as if you set it to only a small number of revisions then you may not be able to back up to an old version of the post if you make a mistake or something but I like it.
WP Word Count
Probably useless/nothing more than a vanity metric for most people but I use it to quickly and easily screenshot the total word count for my domains for YouTube videos/Forum/Reddit posts. Basically you click its tab and you can see the information like this as well as your monthly published content and a few other things.
Other Plugins
Although I am only using the plugins listed above for this domain I have this post going over these plugins in a little more detail as well as a few other plugins that I use for my other domains. If you are looking to set your first domain up then it might be worth checking out.
Keyword Research
I have my old keyword research method posted on Reddit but keep in mind, its three years old now and has not aged well to keep up with how modern Google works and serves its page results for a user search. It shares the same problems as the KGR method and my own personal method that I use has evolved a ton since then but if you are brand new then it might be worth checking out but I have no plans to publish a guide for my current keyword research method as its one of my best assets for moving forward.
As this domain is based around broad, informational content rather than laser-targeting buyer intent keywords like my affiliate projects, I have been having great results from the free version of answer the public due to using much broader initial terms when using the tool. It's well worth checking out as it's free and provided you are careful with your free credits, you can probably stick to the free plan to get a ton of keywords.
I am also using keyword sh*tter too as its an excellent free tool. Although I never logged the keyword source for this current project, I think that answer the public has probably produced more high search volume/low comp keywords for this new project than keyword sh*tter but when it comes to the lower search volume stuff, keyword sh*tter blows answer the public out of the water so try both out if you want to do this yourself.
I have seen so many people say that they want to outsource their keyword research and to date, I have not seen any services that actually offer good keywords. Although I made this going over a keyword research service from Fiverr, I have had similar results with other services charging much more for the keywords they sell you. In my experience, the people who are good at keyword research just outsource and article and use it for growing their own domains so don't be sucked in by flashy sales letters promising your high search volume, low competition keywords as in my experience they are far from it and a waste of money.
Content
Although I linked it earlier in the post, here is the launch content count for the domain. I basically spent two weeks or so churning out content for the project and leaving it in draft mode then published it all at once. I have nothing to back this up data wise or even a theory as to why I do it, I just prefer to have a big chunk of content on the domain when launching it.
I have chosen this parent niche as I know a few of the sub-niches within it pretty well so should be able to churn out a large amount of the content myself with ease. In addition to this, I am planning to bring a few freelance writers on to help me scale the project as quickly as possible to try and diversify my income sources between the Amazon Affiliate program and display ad networks as quickly as possible.
The majority of the articles on my other domains are usually between 1000 and 2500 words and I plan to do the same for this one. I will basically be looking at the first page of Google and checking the word counts of the keyword relevant pages already ranking and at least planning to match the word count of those pages. Different people have their own opinions on this but this will be my plan for word count moving forward.
If you are brand new to this type of thing then I think that for modern google, scaling into content is one of the best ways to get started and you should aim for something similar to what I cover in this screenshot. Although you will likely fail in a large number of the initial keywords that you target, it should put you on the right track to build out your own positive feedback loops as you move forward to improve your own keyword research and content creation methods.
Although I used to type my content directly into the Wordpress editor, I have been using the Surfer SEO content editor as it saves me a fair bit of time when prepping my articles and lets me build templates for the freelancer writers quickly and easily. Surfer SEO is far from essential for this though and I personally think that it is over prices for anyone who just uses it for its content editor. I managed to scale to $3500 a month with my current money site network without it so there's no need to run out and subscribe to it.
I have typed up millions of words of content over the years for various projects and I made this going over some of the main tips that I have picked up over the years. If you are new to blogging then this may be helpful, it’s not going to shave massive amounts of time off your content generation but every little helps and saving time on every article can quickly add up over the coming months as you churn your content out.
I also made this going over how you can easily optimize your images for your blog I would highly recommend people watch it as its one of the few things I really do wish I had known about years back. I got involved in this type of stuff back in 2013/2014 and only really started optimizing my images in January 2020 and it has managed to shave a bunch of time off my page load speeds and storage space requirements. Depending on where you source your images, it can potentially take your image file sizes from 4MB down to >100KB and takes about a minute to do per image if that. If you need sources to get images for your content that you are able to legally use then I made this going over the three main ways that I get free images for my content that may be helpful too.
Backlinks
Although I will be using backlinks for this domain, they are not essential if you are just starting and target keywords that are low enough competition. I got the project I cover here to around $350 a month without backlinks and the project I cover here to $800 a month before I started building backlinks for it. I will initially be focusing on guest posts, niche edits, and manual forum posts for this new project though, and may move into additional link type in the future with it all being outsourced via agencies.
I don’t give out recommendations for the backlinks services I use either as I was using one of the bigger services until a few months back when they tried to scam me by delivering a PBN link instead of the niche edit that I ordered that had a list price of over $300 if I remember rightly. Although it's not the main point of the video, I go over the various ways that you can check any links that you do choose to outsource in this video so you can at least double-check any links that you outsource for your own projects to see if they are just PBN links.
I know that some people like to wait a few months before they start to backlink their projects but I am planning to start backlinking right away as it worked so well for the domain that I started in August last year that made over $1700 last month. I basically use the guest posts and niche edits to pass link juice to help increase my domains strength and hopefully help my pages climb in the search results. Although the main reason for using the manual forum posts is to increase the referring domain count to my project and dilute the anchor text ratio, it does look like they can help for getting your pages to climb in the search results from some tests I did on the domain I started in August.
Also, just to be clear, these are not forum profile links where you make your profile on a niche related forum and just drop your link on your profile page for your account on the forum. These are links dropped in niche relevant threads that have a fair bit of content in the thread making them much easier to index and they tend to have a higher chance of being a do-follow link thank forum profile links too.
Budget
Current Budget Spend For The Project
As I am trying to scale this project as much as possible I am outsourcing a fair few of the tasks but this is not essential as I have typed up most of the content for my other projects myself with the two domains I mentioned above-having none/minimal link building too helping to keep their initial budget costs down. This thread on Reddit from a while back might be worth reading if you have a budget available for your project as it's from a guy asking for advice on how to spend his budget on his site. One of the users has deleted their account in the thread now though so you have to manually click on the + near the deleted account name to expand the full thread.
This video also goes over a number of different tools with the majority being free that I use to do various tasks for my money site network too. This can help you do a number of tasks without having to hike your budget spend up so it might be worth checking out too as it can keep your costs as low as possible.

I will basically be looking at the first page of Google and checking the word counts of the keyword relevant pages already ranking and at least planning to match the word count of those pages. Different people have their own opinions on this but this will be my plan for word count moving forward.
If you are brand new to this type of thing then I think that for modern google, scaling into content is one of the best ways to get started and you should aim for something similar to what I cover in this screenshot. Although you will likely fail in a large number of the initial keywords that you target, it should put you on the right track to build out your own positive feedback loops as you move forward to improve your own keyword research and content creation methods.
Although I used to type my content directly into the Wordpress editor, I have been using the Surfer SEO content editor as it saves me a fair bit of time when prepping my articles and lets me build templates for the freelancer writers quickly and easily. Surfer SEO is far from essential for this though and I personally think that it is over prices for anyone who just uses it for its content editor. I managed to scale to $3500 a month with my current money site network without it so there's no need to run out and subscribe to it.
I have typed up millions of words of content over the years for various projects and I made this going over some of the main tips that I have picked up over the years. If you are new to blogging then this may be helpful, it’s not going to shave massive amounts of time off your content generation but every little helps and saving time on every article can quickly add up over the coming months as you churn your content out.
I also made this going over how you can easily optimize your images for your blog I would highly recommend people watch it as its one of the few things I really do wish I had known about years back. I got involved in this type of stuff back in 2013/2014 and only really started optimizing my images in January 2020 and it has managed to shave a bunch of time off my page load speeds and storage space requirements. Depending on where you source your images, it can potentially take your image file sizes from 4MB down to >100KB and takes about a minute to do per image if that. If you need sources to get images for your content that you are able to legally use then I made this going over the three main ways that I get free images for my content that may be helpful too.
Backlinks
Although I will be using backlinks for this domain, they are not essential if you are just starting and target keywords that are low enough competition. I got the project I cover here to around $350 a month without backlinks and the project I cover here to $800 a month before I started building backlinks for it. I will initially be focusing on guest posts, niche edits, and manual forum posts for this new project though, and may move into additional link type in the future with it all being outsourced via agencies.
I don’t give out recommendations for the backlinks services I use either as I was using one of the bigger services until a few months back when they tried to scam me by delivering a PBN link instead of the niche edit that I ordered that had a list price of over $300 if I remember rightly. Although it's not the main point of the video, I go over the various ways that you can check any links that you do choose to outsource in this video so you can at least double-check any links that you outsource for your own projects to see if they are just PBN links.
I know that some people like to wait a few months before they start to backlink their projects but I am planning to start backlinking right away as it worked so well for the domain that I started in August last year that made over $1700 last month. I basically use the guest posts and niche edits to pass link juice to help increase my domains strength and hopefully help my pages climb in the search results. Although the main reason for using the manual forum posts is to increase the referring domain count to my project and dilute the anchor text ratio, it does look like they can help for getting your pages to climb in the search results from some tests I did on the domain I started in August.
Also, just to be clear, these are not forum profile links where you make your profile on a niche related forum and just drop your link on your profile page for your account on the forum. These are links dropped in niche relevant threads that have a fair bit of content in the thread making them much easier to index and they tend to have a higher chance of being a do-follow link thank forum profile links too.
Budget
Current Budget Spend For The Project
As I am trying to scale this project as much as possible I am outsourcing a fair few of the tasks but this is not essential as I have typed up most of the content for my other projects myself with the two domains I mentioned above-having none/minimal link building too helping to keep their initial budget costs down. This thread on Reddit from a while back might be worth reading if you have a budget available for your project as it's from a guy asking for advice on how to spend his budget on his site. One of the users has deleted their account in the thread now though so you have to manually click on the + near the deleted account name to expand the full thread.
This video also goes over a number of different tools with the majority being free that I use to do various tasks for my money site network too. This can help you do a number of tasks without having to hike your budget spend up so it might be worth checking out too as it can keep your costs as low as possible.

[Month 0] Growing An Informational Intent Site To $10,000 A Month From Scratch!

Although I have been wanting to start a new informational intent-based domain for a while now, I was planning to wait until 2021 to start it but due to the new round of commission changes in the Amazon Affiliate program, I have decided to put all of my Amazon projects on hold for now as I am massively overexposed to Amazon right now. Although I managed to earn almost $3600 last month from my money site network, the vast majority of it was from the Amazon Affiliate program.
Thankfully, I only had one small site hit by this latest round of changes with it taking about a 60% hit in commissions. My other two main domains are predominantly in the “All Other Categories” section and held at a 4% commission rate. That said though, I definitely think that there will be additional cuts and changes to the Amazon affiliate program in a few years so I want to get this informational intent domain off the ground as soon as possible.
My goal is to diversify both income and traffic sources with this new domain to help reduce future risk too as I have had a number of domains slapped by Google updates in the past. It will hopefully be making most of its money from display ad networks supplemented with a number of different affiliate programs with its traffic predominantly coming from organic search traffic supplemented by Pinterest and eventually Quora with any luck.
The majority of the content I am publishing right now is based around high search volume, low competition informational intent searches to try and scale the traffic on the domain as fast as possible to be able to apply to the Mediavine ad network. After that, I will start adding more content that is more suited to Pinterest and Quora traffic generation.
Niche
Although I have chased the commissions in the past and made sites around niches I had zero interest in, over the last year or two I have gone for lower-income potential niches that I actually know more about and enjoy. So far this is working well for me as I have been able to churn out tons of content without having to put much research in as I know a large amount of the information already as my last three domains have been based around my hobbies.
Although this new domain is not based around a hobby, it is based around something where I know a number of the sub-niches that I plan to cover on the domain well. This should allow me to churn out a ton of content when I have time while also bringing on freelance writers when possible to help me scale this new project as quickly as possible to get it off the ground.
Although the niche of the domain is specific, it is very broad so I should not be running into any problems with running out of content to write about any time soon. This has been an issue for a domain that I made in 2018 as well as one in 2019 where they are hard to scale at their current stage due to having covered so much of the niche already. With this new domain, I should be able to scale it for years to come without much of an issue. Also, I don't give out the specific niche to any of my projects so don't plan to reveal the niche that this domain is in.
Starting With The End In Mind
Although I do plan to keep this new domain going for a few years yet and focus on growing it, I am trying to build the domain in a way where it should be quick and easy to sell once its traffic and income are high enough. This should give me a way to quickly sell the domain if I want in a few years without having any issues but time will tell. On the subject of selling sites, I may sell one of my Amazon Affiliate sites in a few months to fire up some cash to scale this new domain even quicker depending on how it is looking in a few months but so far I have $1000-$2000 a month for this new project for various tasks.
One of my friend's purchases sites to diversify her investing portfolio and I reached out to her for things she looks for in a potential new domain and this is what she came back with saying the first 6 are the main ones she will try to get in any potential new purchase:-
Hosting Theme CMS
Although I have been a big fan of Cloudways previously, the ease of use of Sitegounds has won me over so I have gone with Sitegrounds for this new domain as my host of choice. I have stuck with Namecheap as my domain registrar as I have used them for years and never had a problem with them to date and I like how you get free WhoIs protection with them too.
CMS wise, Wordpress was a no brainer due to having so much experience with the CMS from my other projects. The developer community behind Wordpress pretty much ensures that I always have a plugin or custom code that I can use to do anything I need with ease too.
Although I used to use Newspaper and Colormag as my go-to themes of choice, I have since moved over to Astra as it is so quick and easy to set up so I have gone with Astra as my theme of choice for this new domain too. Without the adsense code on the domain, it is giving me a page load time of around 0.6 seconds for a 2000 word article and around 2.5 seconds load time for the same page with the ad code on it.
This is the load times for a 2000 word article on the domain. The top left is Pingdom without having adsense code on the domain, the top right is Pingdom with adsense code on the domain and the bottom is GTMetrics with adsense code on the domain. GTMetrics were having issues on the day I set the domain up so I never managed to get a speed test before adding the adsense code with GTMetrics. The page sizes are different due to the compression from the autooptimize plugin covered below.
Plugins
AAWP
AAWP is a premium plugin that allows me to quickly and easily make product comparison table and link out to the items on Amazon. It also offers automatic geo-targeting for Amazon as well as a few other things but it does need access to the Amazon API so if you are brand new to this, the normal Amazon One Link system will probably be better and easier until you get your Amazon account approved and get access to their API calls.
If you are new to making affiliate blogs then I go over how you are able to make decent looking comparison tables here using free tools. If you don't have access to the API for Amazon or are on a budget for your blog then it might be worth checking out as you can make them look surprisingly good and they don't take too long to build.
Ads.txt Manager
Not a plugin that I usually use and there are a bunch that does the same thing but it basically allows me to quickly and easily edit my ads.txt file to add the different networks IDs to serve ads on my domain. As this new project is mainly going to be an informational content domain, display ads should make up a solid part of its income and I plan to switch ad networks as traffic grows so this should save me a little time in the future.
Autoptimize
One of my favorite free plugins and offers basic caching and lazy loading of images to help compress your pages and speed your pages up. It's very easy to set up and can help you improve your GTMetrix scores if you care about stuff like that while getting your page load times down. I actually purchased the WP Rocket plugin that is a premium plugin that does a similar job but refunded it and came back to Autoptimize as I personally had better results with it and its free.
Disable Comments
I’m not looking to build a community in the blog comments of this domain or attract bots/spammers so I just disable all comments on all posts with this plugin. Quick and easy and takes ten seconds to set up and can prevent a ton of heartache if you end up on some bot auto-accept bot list.
Google Analytics for WordPress by MonsterInsights
I use this to automatically inject the analytics tracking code for Google Analytics for my domains. Although it is easy enough to do it yourself and manually add it to your theme's header, you have to remember to re-add it every time you update your theme if you do it manually so I just use a plugin to keep things easy.
Google XML Sitemaps
I have seen mixed reports about sitemaps and if it's even worth using them anymore, I still do but it's mainly out of habit rather than knowing if Google still needs them or just crawls your domain. This plugin lets you quickly and easily build out a constant sitemap with a few seconds of adding it to your domain.
Insert Headers and Footers
Pretty sure you can use this to auto inject your Google Analytics code to your header if needed instead of Monster Insights but I have never tried it. I use it to inject the Google Adsense auto ads code to the header of my pages to show their display ads, quick and easy, and offers the same advantage of you not having to go back in and re-add it after each theme update.
Pretty Links
A few uses but the main thing that I use it for is to add place holder links as I publish my content to later turn into affiliate links on the back end once I get approved to different programs. Make sure that the TOS for any affiliate program you apply to actually allows you to do this, it's a grey area with Amazon and a few other networks so be aware of that. It also lets you quickly and easily flip your links from one network to another.
ShortPixel Image Optimizer
Another great tool although it is freemium but for the majority of bloggers, the 100 credits a month that you get for free should be more than enough. It basically compresses your images when you upload them and has one of the best compression systems going from what I can see. It can drastically reduce the size of your images without having much effect on the actual image quality. This means the don’t take as much space up on your hosting while needing less bandwidth to actually send on a page required letting your page load quicker too.
Ultimate Addons for Gutenberg
Made by the same team who make the Astra theme, solid plugin considering its free, basically ads some additional blocks for the Gutenberg editor in Wordpress to let you do a few other things with it.
WP Revisions Control
This lets you quickly and easily set a maximum number of revisions for each post to stop it clogging up your database on bigger sites. This plugin does have its negative sides as if you set it to only a small number of revisions then you may not be able to back up to an old version of the post if you make a mistake or something but I like it.
WP Word Count
Probably useless/nothing more than a vanity metric for most people but I use it to quickly and easily screenshot the total word count for my domains for YouTube videos/Forum/Reddit posts. Basically you click its tab and you can see the information like this as well as your monthly published content and a few other things.
Other Plugins
Although I am only using the plugins listed above for this domain I have this post going over these plugins in a little more detail as well as a few other plugins that I use for my other domains. If you are looking to set your first domain up then it might be worth checking out.
Keyword Research
I have my old keyword research method posted on Reddit but keep in mind, its three years old now and has not aged well to keep up with how modern Google works and serves its page results for a user search. It shares the same problems as the KGR method and my own personal method that I use has evolved a ton since then but if you are brand new then it might be worth checking out but I have no plans to publish a guide for my current keyword research method as its one of my best assets for moving forward.
As this domain is based around broad, informational content rather than laser-targeting buyer intent keywords like my affiliate projects, I have been having great results from the free version of answer the public due to using much broader initial terms when using the tool. It's well worth checking out as it's free and provided you are careful with your free credits, you can probably stick to the free plan to get a ton of keywords.
I am also using keyword sh*tter too as its an excellent free tool. Although I never logged the keyword source for this current project, I think that answer the public has probably produced more high search volume/low comp keywords for this new project than keyword sh*tter but when it comes to the lower search volume stuff, keyword sh*tter blows answer the public out of the water so try both out if you want to do this yourself.
I have seen so many people say that they want to outsource their keyword research and to date, I have not seen any services that actually offer good keywords. Although I made this going over a keyword research service from Fiverr, I have had similar results with other services charging much more for the keywords they sell you. In my experience, the people who are good at keyword research just outsource and article and use it for growing their own domains so don't be sucked in by flashy sales letters promising your high search volume, low competition keywords as in my experience they are far from it and a waste of money.

Competition – Cloud is the way of life now, and several big competitors are out there (Amazon and Google for advertising) but in regards to a company like this, with their AI, Analysis, etc etc, this is very niche for advertising with few other companies doing this.
Fair Value Price for Stock – Looking at their financials, I would venture to say this stock could potentially hit the $0.01 price point if not higher. Especially when things ramp up.
When to buy in – Well it’s a penny stock. So now.
Risks – It’s a penny stock, obvious risks are inherent with these stocks. Furthermore, if Covid Round 2 hits (did Round 1 even go away?) this could possibly make bags, lets be honest. The biggest thing for me outweighing this risk is partnering with Fortune 100 companies and other major companies. There is also a possibility of another company swooping in and buying out the technology from these people, which could go either way for the stocks.
Disclaimer – I am not invested in this… yet. I’m wanting to enter at the 0.004 Price point (25,000) with around $100 just to play with, and if it goes to $0.01 I’ll cash out if it drops there (around $135 profit taking out fees for OTC) and depending on other factors (Technical Analysis, whats going on in this world, etc etc) this could tank or moon.

Update on the Bots that have been spamming NSFW subs: My Theory (so far)

So yesterday I crossposted this post over to this Subreddit and have been looking in to it since.
I found a few users who followed the naming conventions as listed in the original post. These users were (I have no issues naming these users here as I believe they are Bots):

These Users (i'm sure there are more but I thought 3 was sufficient enough to prove the link and pattern) have all these things in common:

Theory
In my experience, Bots on NSFW communities require a purpose. Posting for Karma, Posting to then funnel traffic through affiliate links, posting to funnel traffic in general and/or posting to grow a subreddit (usually crossposting instead of posting).
From what we can see in these Bots, I think they fall in to the category of posting to funnel traffic, in the most simplest sense. A link is posted, it is clicked, traffic is now on their site.
So far, I can only find evidence of these bots posting to Pornhub and Youporn, I would be extremely interested if anyone has experience of any other sites being posted to from Users who follow the naming convention of these bots.
Because, right now, I have only found Pornhub and Youporn links, and with the absence of affiliate links (3rd party), my conclusion would be that Mindgeek (who own these sites amongst others), are operating this Bot system to funnel traffic to their sites. It doesn't make sense for anyone else to be doing this as no affiliate links are being used.
Mindgeek sites make money mainly through on page advertising, meaning traffic is king. That would seem to tally up with the purpose of these bots and is a pretty serious issue for Reddit.
It looks to me that these sites have realised a large proportion of eyes that could be on their sites are on Reddit instead, and wanted a slice of that pie, and have decided to get a slice through nefarious means.
Now, to argue against my theory, potentially someone could be playing around with Bots, seeing what they can make, what they can do etc. Pulling Youporn and Pornhub links from either the sites or reddit itself would be a logical way of getting hold of lots of content, quickly, to then post back on to Reddit.
Again though, once proven that this could be done, it would be logical to think this person would then stop or evolve. But there seems to be no tweaking of their system (have the same naming pattern is very sloppy and they don't seem to be taking steps to correct this).

To conclude, I will edit (or maybe even delete) this post as more information comes to light, and I will post some AutoMod instructions in the comments to help Mods protect against this system of Bots.
Any information would be welcomed as I really think this is a big issue for Reddit. If they allow their NSFW communities to be marketing arms for Mindgeek, it further monopolises the Adult industry, and I believe alot of people use reddit as an alternative to these huge conglomerates.

I mean, come on.
It makes perfect sense that businesses would consider this platform as a hub for driving traffic to either their website, their communities or their content.
Now, despite the numbers and how "seducing" these stats can be, Reddit isn't exactly your typical "post & forget" platform.
It does require some out of the box thinking, a little bit of growth hacking, some copywriting, couple of upvote bots, some VPNs, and a little bit of research to understand exactly what certain subreddits like to "roll with" and a good amount of time.

Spending approx. 30-45 mins compiling a minimum of 1000-1500 words of a "blog post" to use as the "payload".

*It sucks when you upvote the hell out something only to find out it was initially shadowbanned.*

[META] Automation Updates.

Talks among the new mods have pointed out that my automation, while effective, is very brutal for new people to get through, so I want to make a few things clear. Since I was going to type this up for the mods anyway, I'm making this public in order to get the community involved.
The automation that exists today, does so in response to some very targeted past abuse. I don't add random automation for the fun of it and to be honest I hate the fact I have to add it at all. Sadly, everything that follows are things I saw in large enough numbers that without the automation, I wouldn't have been able to keep ahead of it all while I was a single mod servicing a subreddit serving 80+ thousand requests a day.
So lets go over some of the automation I have enabled and why I have it, now that I'm not the only active mod.
  1. The new title requirements is done with a number of rules. They will change and grow as the title requirements do. I don't see anything wrong with this myself. The most common feedback the admins get is that “my post was deleted by the bad automation by mistake” and yet every single time I check on the possibility of a bug in the automation, the reason it was deleted was that the person posting did not read or follow the rules. The automation is brutal and does not care that you did not follow the rules. This is by design. If your post gets deleted it’s because you did something wrong, didn’t follow the rules, etc. and in months of people trying to prove otherwise, no one has been able to. Do not include a comma or a slash in your title. Follow the formatting rules. If somebody is able to prove they followed the rules and the automation did them dirty, I will fix the bug and thank them publicly.
  2. Limits on who can post based on account karma and age. This is standard on reddit and is used to protect against troll accounts or bots that gain karma via dedicate troll communities. It also means that we don't care if you created a user just for this sub or not, as we would much rather you posted on your main daily use account as that is the intention of this subreddit anyway. I'm explicitly saying it again: Rules of this subreddit are that you only post here using your main account.
  3. All Links are banned. This is to stop the abuse we have seen in the past as a list of white-listed domains was too hard to maintain and keep track of using the very limited automod system. Currently, all links are simply banned and any posting of a link removes the comment or post. I'm sure you will have feedback on this. I'm open to relaxing this but I'm deeply worried about abuse and outbound spam or people trying to direct our traffic for personal gain at the expense of the community here.
  4. Automation to block posts linking to a short list of abusive subs/domains. These subs/domains/communities have shown they have no interest in helping this community grow, or they have shown they simply see this community as competing with them and don't wish to cooperate with our goals, so they are not allowed to be posted here.
  5. Illegal gambling and poker spam. Anything that mentions poker or gambling is removed as its illegal in the USA where reddit is based, and most of the posts the automation catches are for people trying to start online betting scams. This is to protect Reddit, and to protect this community from getting the admins/law enforcement mad at us.
  6. Medical Related or Medical Tourism related Posts and Scams. Unless you have a medical PHD any post related to medical or healthcare is banned because most of the posts we see with this are scams or just people trying to leverage medical care as a profit center instead of innovating and helping patient care be cheaper or more effective. I have prior experience working with the FDA and working with/in Biotech, and so I understand these issues better than most startups seem to.. and so as a result I'm fully aware that a new startup simply cant afford to be int the medical space unless they are already well established, income generating, and can also prove to the FDA they have the medical credentials vouching for them. and so that is where the Medical PHD requirement comes fro. Since I cant actually expect anybody to dox themselves and such an expectation would be against the reddit rules, I simply banned all medical posts because the majority of them were medical tourism company scams anyway. Simply put, most startups cant afford to follow FDA rules anyway so the only people who have complained about this are the spammers and a few people who have no idea what they are getting into when they say they want to make a technology medical. Simply put unless you have millions of dollars to invest in long term FDA-style processes, its not worth your time to found a medical startup that we would want to support here. An if your goal is to work around these requirements and not have to follow them or do them, then we don't want you posting here as the rules exist to protect patients.
  7. Links to URL shorteners were banned long before we banned links. They are a security hazard and liability because they do not allow the person clicking the link to know where they will end up and we have seen this abused to trick people into clicking links that sub them to take actions on thier account, etc. This will never be changed.
  8. We blocked amazon affiliate links long before we blocked links. We dont want the spam and really such links don't fit this communities goals. This will never be changed.

Bitcointalk

This is by far my biggest earner. Basically, back in mid 2017, I realized that the crypto market was starting another bull run. I had previously learned that it was possible to make money advertising for companies by adding their custom signature to my account profile so that each post contains links to their website/products underneath it. They paid a lot more back then, because Bitcoin was only valued at around $700-1,000 when I started.
This forum also doesn't care about having multiple accounts - in fact, it's fully allowed. Some people have hundreds of accounts. Therefore, I quickly searched the web for people selling their accounts... and bought a bunch of decently-ranked ones such that I was able to post full-time essentially, making up to $5/post which only takes a minute or two. The best campaign I joined is one called DeepOnion, which paid almost $30,000 in about 1 month!!! All I had to do is make 10 posts a week per account, and they deposited their coin to my wallet. After it was added to an exchange, the price quickly rose and one night my portfolio value went from $3,000 to over $20,000. I sold literally at the peak! I also made money from Bitcoin paying campaigns (they pay in BTC as opposed to their token/coin). Another big score was a campaign called ATLANT, where I made well over $20,000 ...however, didn't sell my tokens and now they are worth a fraction of that. Oh well.
With the above said, I don't recommend doing this anymore, as the forum is filled with 3rd world spammers who realized that it was possible to make big money a couple of years ago, and now they have bots spamming constantly and applying to campaigns and such. I haven't posted there in a long time, probably over 6 months, because it wasn't worth it anymore. It was great while it lasted.

LocalBitcoins (non-ref)

Well, I found a high-ranking Reddit post about Bitcoin that was ranked in the top 3 on Google for multiple good long-string keywords. In other words, many people (I'm talking hundreds) were finding it on a daily basis. I got my comment to the top spot, which includes an affiliate link and so over 5,000 people ended up signing up and I made a lot from it. My estimate is about $10,000 USD equivalent (pays in BTC daily), although could be more.

Reddit Posting

This is the same deal as Slickdeals, as explained below. However, after SD banned my accounts, since I had a high-karma Reddit account, I realized that my clients might be interested in advertising in "deals" subreddits (mostly Amazon, although it varied). Sure enough, they were and I got paid up to $300 for a single post in popular subreddits.

HealthyWage (non-ref)

This is an app that pays you to lose weight. There are a few different types of challenges, including personal, individual and team challenges. The personal challenge is the one I am currently focusing on, as I bet $125/mo over 12 months ($1500), and if successful, stand to win $4,900 or $3,400 profit. I started at 360 pounds, and must weigh out at 180 pounds or less after 1 year to win. (I know, it's lots of weight to lose, but there is tons of money at stake.)
If you join using my referral link, you get $40 added to your prize and I also get $40. By the way, most people who join make a mistake of betting too much or too little. For example, you might get the same winnings by betting $100/month or $500/month, because the algorithm caps out at a certain amount. With that said, use this calculator to get the exact amount that you should bet to maximize your ROI (click on "Calculate a Healthy Wager"). I didn't know about this before signing up, and ended up betting more than I had to make the same amount (although only $12).

Slickdeals

I had a startup similar to Groupon, and had made a few Slickdeals accounts because of that. One day while driving, it occurs to me that people might be willing to have me post on SD using my account since the traffic is so high. Well, I drove straight to the library and posted my Skype contact on about 30 threads on Warrior forum, and that same night I was getting contacts from China and it never stopped. This was way back in 2015, and I had 3 accounts and made $20 per post. I was doing about 1 post/day and sometimes getting $5 to do upvotes as well. All-in-all, after contracting out someone on Fiverr to automate the whole thing, my accounts ended up getting banned and that was that.

Selling hoverboards

During the hoverboard craze of 2015, I made a couple of rudimentary sites and managed to sell about 12 in total, making about ~$100 profit per sale, and selling the sites for $750 and $250 respectively for about $2,000 in total profit. This is the first time I used YouTube as a marketing medium, specifically paid product placement, which you can see here. This video sold 4 boards & I sold the site for $250, and the board cost about $350, so it was a good deal in the end.
Well, that about sums up my online earning history. I'm sure there are (many) other ways I've earned a buck, but simply don't remember them all. Again, don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have and I am more than happy to answer. Thanks for reading.

My best suggestions to make fast, easy money are the following:
  • Growing Hydroponic Lettuce this is a new one to me, but I recently started growing lettuce and not only is it super enjoyable, but it's much more cost-effective than buying it from the store. Checkout this video which shows how. All that is needed is a container with some 2 or 3 inch holes, some "net cups" to hold the lettuce in, and some liquid nutrients which are available on Amazon.
